Now Hiring: Preschool Teacher

Mt. Olive Preschool is looking for a nurturing and reliable preschool teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mt. Olive Preschool provides structured activities for children ages 3-5. The teacher position runs Monday-Friday from 8:00-1:00, September  2021- May, 2022. The preschool class will run from 9:00-11:30 every morning. The rest of the time will be spent following cleaning procedures and prep work. 

 

The Mt. Olive Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a loving atmosphere where children are encouraged to grow spiritually, physically, academically, socially and emotionally. As a private, Christian school, the preschool teacher is expected to model a Godly relationship with students and staff.

Pay: $1,600 - $1,900 a month dependent on qualifications and experience

Covid-19 Considerations: We will be following the guidelines provided by the Oregon Department of Education. New guidelines will be released in July 2021. 

 

Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in early education is preferred, or completion of 20 semester credits in early childhood education may be substituted. 

 

Work Location: Classes are in-person and are only offered at one location in Forest Grove. 

Ministry Description

To provide a warm, nurturing, Christ-centered, safe and loving environment where children’s faith is nurtured and where self-concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged and individuality is respected.

 

Basic Qualifications

● Attend a Christian congregation

● Understand and support the mission of Mt. Olive and the philosophy, purpose, and goals of the early childhood program ministry

● A bachelor or associate degree from an accredited university with emphasis on early childhood education, child development, or related field is preferred

● Or completion of 20 semester credits in early childhood education

● Experience in teaching within an early childhood educational program

● Possess a current first aid/CPR certificate or be willing to obtain one

● Possess a current food handler card or be willing to obtain one

● Agree to have a background check and complete a child abuse awareness training

● Willingness to participate in continuing education

● Sufficient mobility to work in a setting that has stairs. Ability to lift at least 35 lbs, bend, stoop, kneel, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Endurance to work with children during outdoor activities. Vision sufficient to read small print. Ability to hear quiet voices and tolerate loud noises.


Provides Instruction

● Plan and teach lessons that are age-appropriate and enhance the creative, emotional, social, physical and intellectual developmental growth of children in the class

● Instruction should complement the State of Oregon preschool guidelines that are foundational skills for early literacy, early math, kindergarten readiness and interpersonal growth

● Display and follow a daily routine

● Prepare written long term goals for the year and short term (monthly or weekly) themes/units

● Set up and change at least monthly, an appropriate, safe, neat and nurturing environment that complements short term goals

● Track student progress by keeping attendance and developmental records

● Provide written progress reports to parents in the spring, but regularly communicate with parents regarding each student’s progress, accidents, and discipline issues

● Provide a monthly communication to the parents electronically
